:
This study aimed to evaluate performance in the written expression of students at the basic stage in Jordan, and specifically the study sought to answer the following two questions: 1 – What are the written expression skills for students in Ninth grade? 2 - What levels of performance of the sample for these skills in the light of an objective tool prepared by the researcher? To answer the question of the study was chosen tool to measure the performance of expressive writing for the stage of basic and applied the tool on a random sample of a regular component of (88) students studying in the Ninth grade in public schools of Jordan, and the results showed that the level of performance of the sample are generally in written expression were not satisfactory, where the percentage of their overall performance (54.3%), and this ratio indicates that student performance was weak and low, and the study found a number of recommendations and proposals. Key words: the Writing expression skills, a scale of the oral expression performance, overall performance levels, members of the sample performance.
